NIU Shack is not a guesthouse in the traditional sense : it is a place of (re)connection to nature, to the body, to ancestral knowledge, to a slower and more intentional rhythm of life.
It's been more than 15 years living off-grid in valley since we started to live off-grid in Tepuhapa Valley, growing our food organically : it has shaped our relationship with nature and so ourselves.
Through the word “niu”, we honor our polynesian origins and the story of Vicky when she came back to the ancestral land in 2010 to start a new life. Niu for "foundation", which is essential for growth.
